“The moment a child is conceived, the mother is also conceived. She never existed before.
The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new!”

Welcome to motherhood! As a mother of four beautiful children, I so vividly remember this amazing time in my own birth journey, how transformative and empowering it was. A journey which begins not at the birth of your baby but from the time of conception of the new life within. As a holistic doula, I recognize the relationship between mind, body and spirit. That’s why I strive to support your whole being, as you go through this incredible time.

So, whether your due next month or are barely 8 weeks, having your first child or third, debating a birth center, home, or hospital birth, I would love to join and support you along the way, by helping you to feel confident in yourself and your abilities, well informed, emotionally and physically prepared for whatever your birth journey may bring.

what is a doula?

A doula is someone who is trained to provide emotional, physical and informational support to the expectant woman and her family before, during and immediately after the birth. Research has shown that women who are supported by a doula during birth have a more positive experience. Doulas are directly related to a healthier birth outcome with a nearly 39 percent reduction in cesarean sections. The support of doulas to a birthing mother has shown reduction in invasive interventions, reduced rate in the use of pain medication and shorter labors, all leading to better outcomes for momma and baby.

I'm a part of your team

While your OBGYN or midwife will handle your medical needs, I’ll be by your side for holistic support. This includes emotional, physical and informational childbirth support.
Here are just a few things a doula provides …

  • Educational Support
  • Emotional Support
  • Labor Pain Relief
  • During Labor

You’ll have endless questions leading up to your birth, when labor begins, during labor and after the birth. If you have any questions, you don't have to wait for your next prenatal visit, you can text, email or call me at any time! As a CAAPA trained birth educator, I am a source to you for evidenced based information, that you can use to make informed decisions regarding your care. When decisions arise during your labor, as your doula, I'll provide objective, calm and steady information to help guide your choices. I will help facilitate conversations between you and your medical provider and recommend the right questions to ask.

Your body is made to birth a baby. As a kind, empathetic and compassionate birth expert, I will reasEmsure you and help you feel secure in the birth process, while working to help you achieve your birth goals.

As a DONA International trained doula, I’ll provide a variety of comfort measures to guide you through your labor and birth, including massage and guidance on birth positions, and other holistic suggestions that help focus the mind.

At your birth, you're my only focus, and most of your time laboring will be spent with me. While your midwife or OBGYN may be splitting their time between different patients or tasks, I'm exclusively devoted to you, and will stay by your side.

As your doula, my sincere goal is to build an authentic connection with each family that I serve to allow truly personalized and meaningful care. Care that will have a positive impact. I am there to support your birth, your way and to help guide you toward the birth you've envisioned. Every woman I’ve worked with is completely unique; in her goals, her choices and her experience. As your doula, I am here to:

  • Provide non-judgmental support and encouragement to you and your family
  • Respectfully guide you and your family as you explore all of your options
  • Help you to stay as close to your birth plan as possible
  • Support you whether you choose Cesarean section, VBAC, induction, epidural, home birth, hospital birth and an OBGYN or a midwife
  • While no one can foresee what your birth may bring, my focus is to help you feel satisfied with your birth experience.

Birth

After week 37 of your pregnancy, I am on-call for you 24/7 if you are waiting for labor to begin spontaneously.  When labor is well established, I will join you to provide physical comfort measures, reassurance and suggestions, and to support you in understanding and making decisions about any suggested interventions. I will also work to keep you hydrated and nourished, and support others attending your birth in being helpful to you. In the event of an unplanned cesarean or other difficult outcome, I provide extra emotional support and resources for you and your partner.

Postpartum

Following delivery, I will stay with you for a few hours to help facilitate nursing and bonding with your new baby. I will return for a follow-up postpartum visit, which may take place in the hospital or at your home depending on your needs, to provide additional breastfeeding assistance, review your birth experience with you, see how you are settling in, and offer further resources.
